Short summary
In Vienna, fog showers will be used in the cool streets. This is being done to improve people's quality of life on the hot days. Fine fog will be sprayed from the fog nozzles, lowering the ambient temperature. When applicable, the ambient temperature can be lowered by 5 degrees. If there are trees in the area or it is a street with trees, the cooling can also be around 10 degrees.
Impact
This new system will make the ambient temperature more pleasant when it gets very hot.
Innovation
Through this system, much can be done against the impact of heat waves.
Lessons learned
There are still plenty of systems we don't actually know about, and I personally think this is a great example of a good innovation that can definitely help during heat waves.
Sustainability
Dense construction creates heat islands, and concrete and asphalt are good heat stores and cause cities to cool more slowly. Therefore, redevelopment will have to take place at the street level regarding cooling options.
Replicability and/or up-scaling
When this system will be used internationally, it will be able to help against heatwaves in many places around the world. In addition, for cities, this is a good idea to build on.
